Ashley Lloyd is a unique milliner who constructs extravagant hats fashioned from unusual choices of flora and fauna. She combines flowers and feathers with bones and skulls in a striking bowerbird-esque arrangement of organic elements to create incredible works of functionable art.
Her use of animal remains, like the springbok horns and armadillo shell, blur a line between the natural and otherworldly. I imagine tribespeople and sorceresses, adorned with these headdresses, roaming through the forests and hills of another planet. Ashley is yet another one of my favorite creatives who also beautifully intertwines concepts of life and death and decay within her pieces. "There is so much to be said for death existing amongst so much beauty."
