Hi there! I’m Corinne Alexandra, the photographer / designer / creative-of-many-talents behind Stuck with Pins – a one-woman-run boutique branding and design studio.
I live in a charming craftsman house in the hip San Diego neighborhood of North Park with my husband Dave and our cattle dog Scout. When I’m not working on photography or design projects, I spend my down time hunting treasures at weekend estate sales and dusty antique malls, eating and drinking my way around this city of foodies, watching bad 80s horror movies, or checking obscure places off our bucket list.
And that’s where this blog comes in. Stuck with Pins (the blog) originally started in 2008 as a place for me to share my mishmash of interests and talents. It was a portfolio of my photography, design, and illustration work, and a journal for my daily musings, current inspirations, and recent travels.
As I’ve grown, so has this site. Stuck with Pins has become an eclectic lifestyle blog for the offbeat creative. I’ve always been drawn to the darker things in life – whether it’s my collection of skulls and taxidermy, fascination with the death positive movement, or my mostly black wardrobe. I make no apologies for my sometimes quirky, strange, or unusual interests. And I hope by reading Stuck with Pins, you’re inspired to carry on with your badass self and embrace all the eccentricities that make you YOU.
So thanks for checking in. I’m glad you’re here and I hope you stay awhile! I’ve answered some frequently asked questions below, but feel free to reach out if you’re curious about anything.
What kind of camera equipment do you use?
I primarily shoot with a Canon 5D MarkIII and 35mm 1.4. I also have a 50mm, 85mm, 24-105mm, and 70-200mm. All my photos are edited in Lightroom with my own customizations of the LXC presets and various VSCO packs.
Who takes your outfit photos?
Unless otherwise stated in the post, my amazing Instagram husband shoots all my looks.
What do you do for a living?
I run the design studio and photography side of Stuck with Pins full-time. I work with creative entrepreneurs and small businesses to build cohesive design solutions for their brands. I also work as a wedding and lifestyle photographer (see my work at corinnealexandra.com)
Did you go to school for photography / design?
I was entirely self-taught for many years into my business but eventually decided to pursue a degree in graphic design at San Diego State University (because I felt I needed that expensive piece of paper).
What does the name “Stuck with Pins” mean?
Brand New has been my all-time favorite band since I was 12, and the phrase comes from the song “Jaws Theme Swimming”. Around that same age in 2003, I was creating pixel dolls and wanted a website to display my work, so I used the name Stuck with Pins. As I’ve grown up, the name just stuck (no pun intended).
