Band Promo – A Sequence of Ghosts

I shot this quite a while back — in July, I believe. We explored the abandoned zoo in LA, made adventure buddies with some kids that were wandering around, climbed on top of the bear caves while the Shakespeare in the Park performance went on in the background, and mowed some In-N-Out burgers afterwards. I’ve been doing design work for these guys over the last couple years but this was our first time finally getting to meet in person. I had a blast with them, so I hope their indefinite hiatus comes to an end soon so we can hang out again!

White Horse Sessions w/ Miss Erika Davies – SD Sound System

A few months ago, Preston of Vessel Drums had me come out to White Horse Studios to shoot some photos of one of his drumkits being used during a video session with Miss Erika Davies. My fellow photog friends, Kevin and Rebecca Joelson, have been working on this awesome project called San Diego Sound System – a new online music show featuring local talents in the San Diego scene (you can watch the pilot video here on Vimeo). Everything these two do is nothing short of pure gold, so I was excited to watch them work and even more excited when they put me to work shooting some video clips for Miss Erika’s session (watch it here). Here are some stills I took during the shoot!

A Shattered Hope | House of Blues, San Diego 8.13.11

The sporadic light system at the House of Blues sure made me miss shooting in the daylight at Warped Tour. But despite the high ISO, crazy lens flares and halation galore, I managed to make the best of a less than ideal lighting situation. Instead of getting frustrated, I used the crazy lighting and noise grain to create a grungy, chaotic vibe to match the insanity of these guys’ music. Who likes clean concert photos anyways? Be sure to check out A Shattered Hope and watch their new music video my friend Michael at Elinn Media produced!

Marco Wood for Vessel Drums

I’ve started working with Vessel Drums, taking product photos and artist profile shots. SO MANY DRUMS! I don’t know anything about drums, but I know a thing or two about drummers (considering I’ve only ever dated drummers), so I guess I do just fine.

Switchfoot Bro-Am 2011

The Switchfoot Bro-Am is a free show and surf competition the guys from Switchfoot put on every summer in collaboration with a non-profit organization geared towards helping kids. The whole thing takes place directly on Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California. The weather is always gorgeous and the turnout is HUGE. This year was such a blast and I had the pleasure of shooting the show alongside my fellow photog friends from the stage and watching my man’s band The Howls rock it out in front of hundreds of people. It was just an all around good time and I’m so happy with these photos.
